Wildlife

Something went wrong with the wildlife lately, as some of you have probably noticed.

Over the next couple of days, it should go back to normal. This means that certain areas will become less dangerous, but at the same time other areas will become dangerous again.

You have been warned.

Re: CODE-HEAVY QUESTION: Does armor stacking matter?

Armor stacking does matter, to a small degree. The system has been redone and re-balanced last summer to address the issues you may remember from Atonement/Parallel. Stacking two primary armors is in general slightly more effective than stacking a primary and a secondary. Stacking more than two piec...

Re: Recent Newsletter/Thoughts

In other news, over the last five months, Ceredir did (some of these were announced via forums, though): The armor & weapons standards overhaul (the code part of it, others did the balancing) Made hyphenated names a thing recognized by the engine. This means a sheath will now be "bearing a hand-axe"...

Re: Beorning Characters

This isn't us being funny, by the way. We just don't want players contacting us via pm's, because we want all communication to be clear and accessible to other staff members. That way, if one of us suddenly goes awol, others can pick up simply by reading the tickets and/or staff forums documentation.

Re: Recent Newsletter/Thoughts

First off, great work Rishte, on all of those crafts! You've done some stuff. A few questions/concerns: - Is this all of the stuff that's been built in the past five months? To be honest, we've been slacking with logging the progress. I myself made a post on our staff forums a few months back, remi...

Set melee

I've had several reports of this problem lately, so I thought I'd throw it here for all to see (and to avoid having it reported again :)). There's a bug with set melee, where it sometimes eats some of the combat messages you should be getting. We're aware of this and looking at a fix, but I just wan...

Re: Trust

In Rishte's defense, the document Icarus mentions is not very easy to locate nor (especially) navigate, and our own new documentation is rather poor. We've lost a lot of stuff in the transition from old SoI. It is easy for us who have experience from the "old" times, but I do often get into a situat...

We have likely forgotten to take weather into consideration when building indoor rooms. If you happen to find interior rooms with weather showing (ie, rain inside a house), please submit a typo report via the TYPO command.
Thanks!

Re: Regarding Punishment & NoGain Tagging

A slight derail, but certain person keeps using this as an argument of theirs, in my opinion unfairly. My post has nothing to do with the rules, policies or twinkery. As the person who did a good portion of the "tweaking armor classes", I do apologize in case someone feels my time spent as a coder i...

Re: Armor/Weapon Overhaul - Feedback

How did I miss SW's input before? I charted this out, and it seems rather unbalanced as described. For instance, every armor type is described at being good versus bludgeon. :p It's more a rule of a thumb chart than something you should take as an exact mathematical model. Quite simply, metal is bet...

Cosmetic changes - call for help

We've just implemented a number of small changes to how the MUD communicates with you, specifically to messages involving quivers and bows, a couple of typos in combat messages and more. I am sure there might be other things that are out of place, and so I would like to ask you, our dear players, to...

This turns out to be a mistake on my part. I accidentally swapped a > for < when changing compare's output. Fixing.

Re: Armor/Weapon Overhaul - Feedback

a few issues I have; segmented leather and oiled leather now offer the same protection level. They do not. They are close because segmented leather is lower quality tier than oiled leather, which kind of brings them on a similar level, but there is a difference :) Greatswords and Warhammers now see...

That said, things are far from ideal at the moment, and I am not saying all is good and fine. Just pointing out that there are some miscnceptions. Re: Suggestions

No wonder! Compare is an awfully confusing thing to base anything on. The maths above come from incorrect assumptions. Firstly, RJ assumes that "better" = +1 point and "worse" = -1 point. That is incorrect. Especially in this case. Secondly, compare doesn't compare (heh) AC and protection vs. damage...

Editing out my previous comment before someone interprets it wrong :) The widely-believed 'superiority' of oiled leather over rough maille is rather debatable.

It indeed was, under certain circumstances. A leftover from the color variables going crazy, and an oversight on my part. Sorry about that. Should be fine now, but you might want to keep an eye on hafts and hilts that you're using in case I missed any. 'Golden' and 'amber' wood is the issue. 'Golden...
